The ECG manifestations in a patient of COPD:-
- Decreaesd magnitude of the electrocardiographic deflections
- The frontal plane P, QRS and T wave axes are all commonly directed to +90 degree
- P pulmonale :- best seen in inferior leads and is the expression of right atrial enlargement
- Right Axis Deviation (RAD)
- Left Axis Deviation (LAD) may be seen in 10% of the patients
- The S1 S2 S3 synderome may also be seen
- Right Bundle Branch Block (RBBB)
- The frontal plane T wave axis
- T wave is diminished in amplitude in all leads
- PTa wave appearance due to more prominent atrial repolarisation
- Arrhythmia in COPD :- Atrial Fibrillation is most common. Other arrhythmias like atrial flutter, atrial extrasystoles, Ectopic atrial tachycardi and Multifocal Atrial Tachycardia may also be seen.
